The F/A-18 is an all weather, strike fighter. It's carrier capable, and it is designed to attack both grand and aerial units. It is also capable of close air support, and supression of enemies. The F/A-18 is extremely reliable and has proven to be an important role in Navy Activity. The F/A-18 Hornet was a result of the U.S Navy's Naval Fighter Attack Experimental program. It was sole purpose was to become a multirole aircraft to replace the old but yet cunning, A-4 Skyhawk, A-7 Corsair II, and the few remaining F-4 Phantoms. The F/A-18 is a mid wing, multi tactical aircraft. It is extremely agile due to it's good thrust to weight ratio, digital fly by wire control system, and it's leading edge extensions. The leading edge extensions (LEX) allows the Hornet to be super stable during it's high angles of attack. The LEX produces powerful vortices over the wings in return creating turbulent airflow over the wings and thus removing the aerodynamic separation that is responsible for stalls. Due to this ability, the Hornet is capable of high speed tight turns, and high angles of attack.
